‘Wish Ko Lang’ paves new path for Mariannet’s family

Never lose hope. That was the message GMA Network’s program “Wish Ko Lang" wants to impart to its viewers as host Vicky Morales granted the wishes of Mariannet Amper, a 12-year-old girl from Davao City who was driven to commit suicide because of poverty. Morales flew to Davao to meet with the grieving family of Mariannet and there she personally saw the destitute life the girl suffered. The Ampers live on top of a mountain in Ma-a, Davao City. The GMA Public Affairs show handed to the family a new school bag and pair of shoes for Mariannet, which were among the many wishes of the 12-year-old girl. Her wish list also included a livelihood for her mother and father and a bicycle for her sibling. The program granted Mariannet’s wishes. Her family received 12 goats, grocery items that they can sell and a bike for his brother Raynalt. Wish Ko Lang also granted Mariannet’s wish for her siblings to go to college by seeking the help of STI College for a four-year scholarship for other Amper children. The program also gave the children a complete set of school supplies. Mariannet’s mother Magdalena nearly passed out upon seeing the goodies. However, the program at the end of the segment appealed to viewers not to resort to drastic moves to get the network’s attention. “Nais naming ipaabot sa lahat na hindi ipinapayo ng ‘Wish Ko Lang’ ang paggawa ng desperadong paraan para makuha ang atensiyon ng aming programa," the notice read. - GMANews.TV
