Akbar likely target of Batasan blast - NCRPO chief


National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief, Director Geary Barias said Tuesday evening that the late Basilan Rep. Wahab Akbar appeared to be the target of the blast that ripped through the south wing entrance of the House of Representatives at the Batasan Pambansa complex in Quezon City. In a radio interview, Barias said Akbar's vehicle absorbed the brunt of the explosion which occurred moments after the session ended. "From what we see, it looks like Rep. Akbar was the target," Barias said, although he quickly added that investigators are still gathering information and pieces of information on the incident. National Police chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr said doctors at the Far Eastern University-NRMF Medical Center declared Akbar (Liberal Party, Basilan) dead at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday. As of posting time, the National Bureau of Investigation and K-9 bomb-sniffing dogs continue to scour the blast site. - GMANews.TV
