First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo is physically fit and can leave the hospital soon, his doctor said Friday.
Radio dzBB quoted his doctor, heart surgeon Rommel Cariño, as saying that Arroyo can be discharged from St. Luke's Medical Center in Quezon City today (Friday) if the patient desires.
Cariño said Arroyo was showing signs of improving physical health following the latter's triple heart bypass last April.
A "torn, damaged," section of the First Gentleman's aorta shrunk from 3.7 cm to 3.5 cm, the report said. The doctor said this showed that the wound in Arroyo's aorta was healing.
Although he recently gained five pounds, Arroyo's cholesterol and blood pressure levels were assessed to be within tolerable levels.
Arroyo was advised to return to St. Luke's within six months and every six months thereafter for the rest of his life.
As part of his two-day "routine" checkup, Arroyo underwent a computerized tomography (CT) scan, 2D echo examination and blood sugar tests, the report said.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who spent the night at the hospital, also took a medical checkup.
The President left the hospital before 8 a.m. Friday and arrived a few hours later at 1:20 p.m., dzBB radio said.
