Despite discharge orders, Mike Arroyo spends night at hospital

Security remained tight at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City on Saturday as President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo spent a second night there to keep watch over First Gentleman Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo. Radio dzBB reported that as of 5 a.m., instead of regular security guards, personnel from the Presidential Security Group remained stationed at the hospital lobby, frisking and inspecting visitors and their belongings. A change of shifts among PSG personnel provided the only "break" in the tight security at the hospital. The PSG has been securing the hospital since Thursday, when the First Gentleman was brought there for a "routine checkup." Although given discharge orders by his doctors as early as Friday, the First Gentleman remained in the hospital overnight. On Friday, heart surgeon Rommel Cariño said the First Gentleman was showing signs of improving physical health following the latter's triple heart bypass last April, saying tests conducted on him showed that the wound in his aorta was healing. Although he recently gained five pounds, Arroyo's cholesterol and blood pressure levels were also assessed to be within tolerable levels. As part of his two-day "routine" checkup, the First Gentleman underwent a computerized tomography (CT) scan, 2D echo examination and blood sugar tests. - GMANews.TV
