'Mina' static, but keeps power as it targets Aurora, Isabela


Typhoon "Mina" (Mitag) remained almost stationary but maintained its strength and northwestward course Saturday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. In its 5 p.m. bulletin, Pagasa said "Mina" was 180 kilometers east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph. "Mina" was moving northwest at 11 kph and was expected to be 170 km north-northwest of Virac, Catanduanes Sunday afternoon. By Monday afternoon, it was forecast to be 100 km west of Casiguran, Aurora. By Tuesday afternoon, it was forecast to be 200 km west-northwest of Baguio City. Under Storm Signal 3 were Catanduanes, Camarines Norte and Polillo Island. Under Signal 2 were Camarines Sur, Albay, Burias Island, Quezon, Quirino, Aurora, and Isabela. Under Storm Signal 1 were Sorsogon, Romblon, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Batangas, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province and Cagayan. Pagasa reminded residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes against possible flashfloods, mudslides and landslides.
