Defense chief orders troops to 'rearrest' Trillanes, Lim

Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr on Thursday said he has ordered troops to rearrest Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV and Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim and place both officials under military custody. This, as Armed Forces chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr said the military will "apply the full force of the law" to end what he described as a "desperate effort" by the two detained officials to evade results of their trial. In an interview, Teodoro said he directed troops to bring Trillanes and Lim back to military custody. "My orders now is to rearrest them and place them back to custody, to apply the law... We will be meeting in a few minutes... on what really is the situation on the ground and what really is supposed to be done," Teodoro said. GMA Flash Report also reported that that Makati City Regional Trial Court will issue an arrest warrant for both Trillanes and Lim for walking out of Thursday's trial. For his part, Esperon said government troops will undertake full measures allowed by the law to resolve the commotion caused by the walkout and subsequent march in Makati, as well as Trillanes and Lim's calls for President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's resignation. "We apply the full force of law that is available to us ng sa ganun ay maawat na kaagad sa lalong madaling panahon itong commotion na ito," Esperon said. "At the same time i would like to assure our countrymen, the Armed Forces of the Philippines is solid, intact and united. We strongly condemn this action by Lim and Trillanes who are trying to evade the possible results of their trial. This is a last minute, desperate act on their part," Esperon said. - GMANews.TV
