Brig Gen. Danilo Lim arrested

Police have arrested Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim shortly after an assault team barged into a room holding him and other junior officers, radio DZBB reported. Earlier, members of the assault team from the Special Action Force wearing gas masks rounded up people inside the Manila Peninsula Hotel, where Sen. Antonio Trillanes, Lim and their supporters stayed for hours after walking out of their court hearing in Makati. Trillanes earlier said he and his group decided to end the standoff at the hotel to avoid deaths. ''For the safety of everyone, we're going out ... because we cannot live with our conscience if some of you get hurt in the crossfire,'' said Trillanes. At least two people were injured as troops and SWAT teams assaulted the hotel in Makati. An armored personnel carrier, earlier used as cover by the security forces, was used to crash through the roped-shut lobby entrance, where dense clouds of tear gas wafted through.
