Gonzalez orders rebellion raps vs Trillanes, others in standoff

Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez said Thursday night he has ordered rebellion and sedition charges slapped against Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV and Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim for the Manila Peninsula Hotel standoff. Gonzalez said he formed a task force under the supervision of undersecretary Fidel Exconde to draw up the charges. "My direction is to charge them with rebellion, under Sec. 134 of the Revised Penal Code. This must be taken into context with the pronouncement of Sen. Trillanes he is demanding for the stepping down of the president," he said. He said a second charge would be inciting to sedition. Interior secretary and presidential political adviser Ronaldo Puno said the charges will stick because there were shots fired at the height of the standoff Thursday afternoon. "There were shots fired. We believe such charges can be sustained. We're going to investigate everything," he said. - GMANews.TV
