Groups planning ‘activities’ to jibe with Friday’s anti-Arroyo rally - PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will observe maximum tolerance at a multi-sectoral rally calling for the ouster of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in Manila Friday. But PNP chief Avelino Razon Jr. said Thursday night he has received "intelligence information" that some groups are planning "activities" to jibe with Friday's protest. "We still have contingency, civil disturbance groups. We'll still carry out the policy of maximum tolerance and we'll allow the conduct of these protest rallies as long as they have permits," Razon said at a Malacañang briefing. Catholic bishops, militants, civil society and the political opposition were to hold a march to Liwasang Bonifacio then to Mendiola Bridge near Malacañang Friday. They were to call for the rejection of what they called a "morally bankrupt" government. But when asked if they have found any connection between Thursday's six-hour standoff in Makati City to Friday's planned rally, Razon said they are "trying to piece together evidences we gathered so far, including testimonies na makukuha ngayong gabi (that we can gather tonight)." - GMANews.TV
