Migrante urges Arroyo action on 26 OFWs in death row

Migrante International, an alliance of Filipino migrant organizations, hailed Sunday the commutation of the death sentence on Filipino maid Marilou Ranario to life imprisonment as a victory of her family. Reacting to the promise of the Kuwaiti emir to spare the OFW from death, Migrante said: “This is triumph of Ranario’s family and Filipinos all over the world who persevered in the campaign to save her life." The group, however, said “the campaign should not stop here until Marilou is finally reunited with her family." It called on the government to act swiftly on the case of some 26 other OFWs in death row, including May Vecina who was also meted death in Kuwait. According to Migrante, Vecina, a 28-year-old Filipino maid from North Cotabato, allegedly killed her six-year-old ward and wounded two others last January 6. - GMANews.TV
