SEA Games: 4th-placer RP has 3rd highest medals tally


(Updated 12:44 p.m.) The Philippines has the third highest medal tally in the 24th Southeast Asian Games in Thailand, but remained at fourth spot in the overall rankings as it lagged behind Singapore in the gold medal race. As of Monday noon, Filipino athletes have collected a total of 86 medals, 17 of which are gold, 25 are silver and 44 are bronze. Filipino Willy Wang gave the country its 17th gold medal Monday when he ruled the Men's Nanquan (Three Events Combined) in Wushu competition. Another Wushu player, Rene Catalan, was awarded a bronze medal in the Men's under 52-kg category. Still lording it over the SEA games is host country Thailand with a 170 total medal haul, 67 of which are gold. Vietnam takes second spot with 88 medals, including 31 golds. Singapore, now in third place overall with 60 medals, reaped 26 golds. In the fifth place is Malaysia with 61 medals, 16 are gold; followed by Indonesia with 59 medals, 13 are gold; Myanmar with 26 medals, three are gold; Laos with 11 medals, two are gold; Cambodia, with eight medals, one of which was gold; and Brunei Darussalam with a silver medal. - GMANews.TV
