Militant drivers claim 75% success in Davao

Militant groups claimed to have paralyzed transport operations in 75 percent of Davao City as of Thursday morning, dzBB radio reported.

The report said transport groups allied with the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (Piston) stopped plying their routes at 1 a.m. Thursday.

It said organizers of the transport strike in Davao City gained the support of up to 95 percent of jeep drivers in the area.

But the effects of the strike were not felt in the Visayas, including Iloilo and Cebu, as it was "business as usual" for commuting workers and students.

Commercial establishments in Iloilo City remained open as of Thursday morning, while classes were not suspended.

Militant drivers had held a two-day strike starting Wednesday in Iloilo and Panay Island in Western Visayas Wednesday. - GMANews.TV
