Palace orders PNP, NBI probes into broadcaster's killing

Malacañang condemned the killing of broadcaster Ferdie Lintuan, who was shot to death by a motorcycle-riding assailant shortly after leaving his radio station in Davao City on Monday morning. This, as it directed both the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct an investigation into the killing. In a text message, Jesus Dureza, Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, said the government will not allow perpetrators of the killing to go unpunished, as he appealed to Davao media groups to provide initial assistance to the victim's family. "We condemn the murder of Davao radioman Ferdie Lintuan who was shot in his car as he stopped at the junction. He came from (his) radio program at station dxGO. Two media companions Lucio Ceniza and Edgar Banzon were not hurt," Dureza said. "We are asking the police and the NBI to investigate this. The government will not allow this criminal act to go unpunished... We are coordinating with Davao media groups in providing assistance to the grieving family. Lintuan, a widower, is taking care of 4 school-aged children," he added. Dureza noted that in 1987, Lintuan survived an attack staged by New People's Army (NPA) rebels against radio station dxRA in Davao City, which killed six people. "Lintuan was a survivor many years ago when NPAs attacked dxRA killing announcer Leo Palo and five others," Dureza said. - GMANews.TV
