BFP readies 80 fire trucks for Metro revelry

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has readied at least 80 fire trucks in Metro Manila alone to respond to fires likely to occur on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. BFP director for operations Senior Superintendent Carlito Romero said Thursday this is aside from the volunteer firefighters led by Chinese Filipino volunteer groups. "Meron tayong 80 fire trucks sakaling may sunog at may volunteer firetrucks tutulong kung kailangan (We have 80 fire trucks on standby in case of fire. This is not including those of volunteer firefighters who are ready to help us)," he said in an interview on dzBB radio. He said the BFP will spend the days before New Year going around villages in Metro Manila to remind residents to prevent fires. Romero said firefighters will also inspect designated "common areas" where firecrackers will be lighted to check for proper equipment such as fire extinguishers and drums of water or sand. "Dapat may designated area para sa mga firecrackers (There should be designated areas for lighting firecrackers on New Year's Eve)," he said. He said residents should call the "117" hotline in case of fires during the New Year's revelry. - GMANews.TV
