The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) made a last-minute appeal to residents Monday evening to start 2008 right by cleaning up the mess from the revelry.
MMDA general manager Roberto Nacianceno said debris from fireworks and garbage, including leftovers from "media noche" feasting, can pose a threat to public health if left on the streets.
"Walisin nila iyan sa umaga. Pangit naman makita first day of the year (They should sweep their mess in the morning. Besides, leaving the mess is not a good way to start the year)," Nacianceno said in a radio interview.
Nacianceno appealed to residents against burning tires in the streets on New Year's eve.
He said burning tires will pose an obstacle to fire trucks responding to fires likely to take place between New Year's eve and the first hours of New Year's Day. - GMANews.TV
