Fire razes firecracker stalls in Iligan City


ILIGAN CITY - A fire of still unknown origin razed firecracker stalls in Iligan City about 5 p.m. Monday, radio reports said. Firefighters put off the blaze that consumed stalls on Roxas and Quezon Avenues in the city. There were no reported injuries. Earlier Monday, several people, including a GMA News crew member, were hurt after a fire followed by a series of explosions hit a row of firecracker stalls in Bocaue town in Bulacan province. Chief Inspector Rizalino Andaya, Bocaue police chief, told dzBB radio a lighted cigarette seemed to have triggered the fire and the explosions. Police closed roads leading to Santa Maria town even as firefighters rushed to the site near Turo village in Bocaue. The explosion caused a crater on the ground and destroyed several stalls. Bocaue is a first-class urban town with a population of 86,994 people in 18,237 households. - GMANews.TV
