Traffic snarled near bus terminals as workers return to Metro

Traffic near bus terminals in Metro Manila was snarled early Wednesday as workers started returning to Metro Manila to report for the first working day of 2008. Radio dzBB reported that traffic near bus terminals in Quezon and Pasay Cities was tight as some buses unloaded passengers on the street instead of at the terminals. Making the situation worse were taxi drivers who clogged several lanes to accommodate passengers alighting from the provincial buses. In Quezon City, the dzBB report said no police personnel or traffic aide was seen to direct traffic near the bus terminals as of 6 a.m. Traffic was also tight near the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) as motorists and employees returned to Metro Manila from their home provinces. For his part, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr ordered the Traffic Management Group (TMG) under Chief Superintendent Perfecto Palad to ensure smooth traffic. Razon also ordered all police personnel to remain vigilant and monitor the situation in piers and airports. - GMANews.TV
