BFAR lifts red tide ban on Masbate Bay

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has lifted a red tide ban on Mandaon Bay in Masbate province after recent tests for the red tide toxins there turned up negative. Radio dzBB reported Thursday morning that BFAR will now allow fishermen and residents to gather and eat shellfish from the bay. However, the BFAR said the red tide ban on six other bays will remain in effect until tests on the waters there for the red tide toxin turns up negative. Still covered by the red tide ban are Milagros Bay in Masbate; Sorsogon Bay in Sorsogon; Bislig Bay in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur; Dumanguilas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur; Irong-Irong Bay in Samar; and Carigara Bay in Leyte. The report said the BFAR's Red Tide Task Force will continue to conduct tests on the waters from the areas where the red tide alert remains up. - GMANews.TV
