Former president Joseph Estrada is set to meet with the leaders of the United Opposition (UNO), including Representative Rufus Rodriguez of Estrada’s Partido ng Masang Pilipino (PMP), to tackle the fate of Speaker Jose de Venecia, Jr.
Estrada, who is still in Hong Kong and did not make clear when he would return to the country, said the issue on whether or not to support the ouster of De Venecia as Speaker will be his first order of the day once he returns home.
He was reacting to earlier statement made by Rodriguez that the opposition will support the bid of Davao Representative Prospero Nograles replacing De Venecia once the majority throws its support to Nograles.
“Is that what Congressman Rodriguez said. I can only answer that once I returned to the country. I need to talk with them first, my colleagues in the opposition," Estrada said.
Bacolod City Rep. Monico Puentevella earlier said that De Venecia’s days as Speaker are now numbered.
Puentevella advised De Venecia to discipline his son, businessman Joey De Venecia III, the one who exposed the alleged anomaly and bribery involving the National Broadband Network (NBN) deal entered by the government with the China-based ZTE firm.
“For as long as he cannot discipline his son, there will always be allies of the President and the First Gentleman who will be hurt by his accusations and take it against the Speaker" Puentevella said. - GMANews.TV
