Si ‘Citadel’ sa buhay ni Carlo J. Caparas

Bago sumikat ang karakter nina Joaquin Burdado, Panday, Totoy Bato, Pieta, Bakekang at iba pa, alam nyo ba na kwento tungkol sa isang babae ang unang nobela ng sikat na manunulat na si Carlo J Caparas.

“Citadel" ang titulo ng unang nobela ni Carlo na nalathala sa Superstar komiks noong 1970’s. Kwento ito ng tatlong lalaki na nagawang magpinta ng larawan ng iisang babae. Tinatayang 800 nobela ang nilikha at nalathala ni Carlo bago nya ipinagpahinga ang kanyang mga kamay paggawa ng kwento noong 1987.

Sinabing bata pa lang ay mahilig ng magbasa si Carlo. Katunayan, hindi niya isinuko ang kanyang library card nang mag-dropout sa paaralang pinapasukan upang patuloy na makapasok sa library.

Kahirapan ang nagtulak kay Carlo upang tumigil sa pag-aaral noong 1st year high school at sumabak sa maagang pagtatrabaho. Pinasok nya ang pag-iigid ng tubig, bangkero sa ilog Pasig, construction at factory worker at security guard sa isang publishing company sa Makati sa edad na 19.

Tinawag ni Carlo na “1,000 nights of reading" ang kabanata ng kanyang buhay sa pagiging sekyu. Pagbabasa ng mga libro, magazines at mga script ang pinagkaabalahan ni Carlo tuwing naka-duty mula 11 pm hanggang 7 am.

Dahil sa isang insidente kung saan napinsala ang kanyang paa, napilitan si Carlo na magbakasyon na naging daan naman upang matuklasan niya ang talento sa pagsusulat.

Mula sa karakter ni Citadel, naging sunod-sunod na ang nobela ni Carlo hanggang mapabilang sa listahan ng mga de-kalibreng manunulat sa mundo ng komiks. - GMANews.TV
