Masbate town police chief survives slay try


A police chief in Masbate province in Bicol escaped death following an ambush by suspected New People's Army (NPA) rebels, dzBB radio reported Monday. Reports reaching Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame showed at least 15 communist rebels ambushed Chief Inspector Brian Castillo, police chief of Mandaon town in Masbate, while he was passing through Managa-naga and Aroroy villages. Castillo was aboard a Wrangler-type jeep and was on his way to Masbate City when he was ambushed, the report said. He managed to maneuver out of trouble, but his jeep was riddled with bullets. Pursuit operations by the 5th Regional Mobile Group based in San Juan in Mandaon, Masbate are now ongoing against the NPA attackers. - GMANews.TV
