Palace: No offer made to Recto as DoF chief

Malacañang on Tuesday denied reports that it offered defeated senatorial candidate Ralph Recto the top position at the Department of Finance (DoF). In a text message to reporters, Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye quoted Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita as saying that "no offer (was) made to Recto" to become the DoF secretary. Recto was elected senator in 2001 and served his post until 2007. He was chairman of the Senate committees on ways and means and trade and industry, and the main proponent of the expanded value added tax (e-VAT) law at the upper chamber. He was also a three-term representative of Batangas province . - GMANews.TV
