Domestic air travel in RP grows 22% in 2007

Philippine domestic air travel expanded 22.7 percent in 2007 owing to local airlines' cheaper promo fares, data from the Civil Aeronautics Board showed. The CAB data showed that 10.38 million people traveled by air in 2007, up from 8.46 million passengers in 2006. The Philippines' five major carriers' seat capacity jumped 14.6 percent to 13.33 million last year from 11.61 million in 2006. Domestic load factor, on the other hand, rose to 78 percent in 2007 from 73 percent in the previous year. An increase in load factor reflects a steady growth in passenger demand. Budget airline Cebu Pacific was the leading domestic carrier last year as it carried a total of 4.45 million passengers, compared to rival Philippine Airlines' 4.03 million. The Gokongwei-owned budget carrier registered an 83 percent load factor higher than PAL's s 79 percent. - GMANews.TV
