GMA shows, talents all winners in USTv Students Choice Awards


GMA Network bagged eight trophies from the 4th USTv Students Choice Awards, organized by the University of Sto. Tomas to recognize artistic excellence and promote Christian values in television programming. I-Witness, Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho, and Wish Ko lang — shows under GMA News and Public Affairs — received three of the awards. I-Witness, a documentary news and public affairs show hosted by Sandra Aguinaldo, Kara David, Howie Severino, and Jay Taruc, was adjudged as USTv’s best documentary program. Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho, an informative news and public affairs show hosted by said veteran journalist was chosen as best magazine program. Wish Ko Lang, the country’s first wish-granting TV program, hosted by Vicky Morales, was declared as USTv student judges' choice for public service program. Five other USTv awards were given to three shows under GMA Network’s Entertainment Group – Marimar, Bubble Gang, and Slam Dunk — and to two of GMA’s best talents, Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes. Marimar, an adaptation of a Mexican telenovela, which stars Rivera and Dantes, was hailed as USTv’s most popular drama miniseries. Rivera was picked as most popular actress in a drama/miniseries, while Dantes was chosen as most popular actor in the same category. Bubble Gang was honored as the most popular gag show. The show’s regular cast members are Ogie Alcasid, Michael V., Wendell Ramos, Antonio Aquitania, Maureen Larrazabal, Boy2 Quizon, Diana Zubiri, Francine Prieto, Diego Llorico, and Mykah. Finally, Slam Dunk, a 24-Kanzenban manga, and animé series about a basketball team from Shohoku High School, bagged the students' choice for full animated program. Dantes, Ramos, Morales, Marimar’s director Joyce Bernal, and the telenovela’s staffers went to the UST Medicine Auditorium in Manila Wednesday night to receive the awards. - GMANews.TV
