P7.3-B pera ng bayan nawaldas sa katiwalian - IBON

MANILA - Umabot na sa P7.3 bilyon ang halaga ng nawawaldas na pera ng bayan dahil sa katiwalian sa gobyerno sa nakalipas na pitong taon, ayon sa militanteng think tank na IBON Foundation nitong Martes. Ayon sa IBON, si Pangulong Gloria Macapagal Arroyo na ang naging pinaka-tiwaling pinuno sa kasaysayan ng bansa. "President Gloria Arroyo may indeed be the most corrupt president the country has ever had, based on amounts lost to the Filipino people in just six corruption scandals over her seven years in office," sinabi ng grupo sa isang pahayag. Kabilang sa mga umano’y maanomalyang transaksyon ng gobyerno ay ang P728-million fertilizer scam, Jose Pidal bank accounts, Northrail project, $14-million IMPSA power plant project, P1.3-billion poll automation project, Macapagal Boulevard project, at ang $329.48-milyong kontrata sa national broadband network project. Iginiit ng IBON na maaari sanang gamitin ang naturang halaga sa pagpapabuti ng sektor ng edukasyon at kalusugan para sa milyon-milyong mahihirap na Filipino. "For example, it could have been used to help the Department of Education (DepEd) bridge its resource gaps of classrooms, textbooks and teachers," ayon sa IBON. Batay sa talaan ng DepEd, sinabi ng IBON na kulang ng P8.43 bilyon ang pondo ng DepEd para sa taong 2008. Samantala, ipinaliwanag din ng IBON na ang P7.3 bilyong halaga ng nakukuha na pera sa bayan ay maaari sanang ilaan sa mga pasyente ng Philippine General Hospital. "These cases also indicate the Arroyo administration's high tolerance for corruption, since none of them has ever been satisfactorily resolved. In fact, the Ombudsman only filed graft and corruption charges against former Justice Secretary Hernando Perez in January 2007 or six years after the charges were made public," ayon sa IBON.
