Police investigate fresh death threats vs Lozada

MANILA, Philippines - Police have initiated an investigation into reports of threats to the life of ZTE witness Rodolfo Noel Lozada Jr, even as Senate sheriffs have started beefing up security for him. Radio dzBB reported Tuesday morning that Philippine National Police chief Dir. Gen. Avelino Razon Jr ordered the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group to handle the investigation on Lozada's alleged death threats. He also ordered the investigation to include personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) following reports that the threats indicated Lozada's assassins would come from jails. Earlier, Senate sheriffs tightened security for Lozada, who received threats through text and mobile phone calls, while friends relayed similar "threats." Lozada said he believed the assassins, supposedly from the Manila and Quezon City Jails and the national penitentiary, were likely from the administration. Still, Lozada said he will still continue his campus and provincial tours to tell what he knows about the $329.48-million ZTE national broadband network deal mess. - GMANews.TV
