Razon: Reports on abduction of children for internal organs a hoax

MANILA, Philippines - There is no truth to the reports that a certain group in Metro Manila is abducting children for their internal organs, according to Philippine National Police chief Dir. Gen. Avelino Razon Jr. Razon said Wednesday a check with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) showed that the plate number of the vehicle allegedly used in the crime is non-existent. "Please do not believe these text messages about a certain group that is abducting children and allegedly selling their internal organs. There is no truth in that. It's a hoax," Razon said. Razon said the information spread in the provinces of Batangas, Cavite, Zambales and Rizal, causing panic among parents. The PNP chief appealed to cellphone users who receive these "malicious" text messages to not "dignify" them by passing them on to others as stated at the end of the message. Razon also said the PNP will coordinate with telecommunications companies to find out the source of the information. At the same time, he directed regional police commanders in areas where the test messages are circulating to be vigilant and take action "to assure the public that these are not true, and that the PNP is taking steps to identify who are behind the circulation of these text messages." - GMANews.TV
