MANILA, Philippines - The 75,000-strong Philippine Army on Sunday joined the nation in celebrating the victory of boxer Manny Pacquiao against Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez in their 12-round title match at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao won a narrow split decision to claim Marquez's WBC 130-pound title Saturday night (Sunday morning in Manila) in a sensational fight that left two of the world's best boxers bloody and triumphant. Yano said the live telecast of the fight was seen by the entire army community at the army gym inside Fort Bonifacio. “The Philippine Army is one with the whole nation in jubilation for the international honor brought about by one of its outstanding reservists," Yano said. “I could see while watching the fight and upon Pacman’s victory that once again, a genuine sense of nationalistic pride was generated by Manny Pacquiao, the kind of pride that provides inspiration, unites the whole nation, and gives hope to everyone that greatness is possible amid enormous challenges," he added. - GMANews.TV
