Heroes' welcome readied for Pacquiao brothers - report

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines - Residents here are now preparing a heroes' welcome for new World Boxing Council champ Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao and his brother Bobby, following Manny's win over Mexican slugger Juan Manuel Marquez. Bombo Radyo General Santos reported Sunday afternoon that Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr's staff said they are proud of the Pacquiao brothers, regardless of whether they won or not. The report quoted a staff of Acharon as saying a motorcade and a press conference are being prepared for the Pacquiao brothers upon their arrival at the General Santos airport. No date has been set for the Pacquiao brothers' return from the United States as of Sunday afternoon. Before noon Sunday (Manila time), Manny won the super featherweight title from Marquez via split decision in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bobby, on the other hand, lost to Mexican Urbano Antillon late last week. The victory threw General Santos residents into a frenzy, as many were seen crying for joy after Pacquiao was declared the new super featherweight champion. The report said many parts of General Santos became a virtual ghost town while the fight was being aired. - GMANews.TV
