Pacquiao to spend Holy Week in US - report

MANILA, Philippines - New World Boxing Council super featherweight champion Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao will spend the Holy Week in the United States and return to the country not earlier than Easter Monday. Radio dzBB reported before dawn Monday that Pacquiao plans to spend the week in the US to rest and to allow his swollen eye to heal. Pacquiao, who won over Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico via split decision, sustained two nasty cuts in the eye, which may impair his vision. His coach Freddie Roach also gave him at least a month to let his injured eye heal. The earliest that Pacquiao could be cleared to train for his next bout would be the second week of July, the report said. Residents of General Santos City are now preparing a heroes' welcome Pacquiao and his brother Bobby, following Manny's win over Juan Manuel Marquez. A Bombo Radyo report said Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr's staff said they are proud of the Pacquiao brothers, regardless of whether they won or not. - GMANews.TV
