Palace: No cease-fire during Lenten break
MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang would not declare a unilateral cease-fire with insurgents during the Lenten break. Secretary to the Cabinet Ricardo Saludo assured Monday that the police and military would continue to provide maximum security and defense for the people during the Holy Week. “The police will continue to provide peace and order while the military shall continue to provide defense for our people," Deputy spokesperson Lorelei Fajardo added. The police and military are aiming to avert lawless elements form taking advantage of the Lenten break, he said. The Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Western Command said operations particularly against the Abu Sayyaf would continue during the Lenten break to avert possible terror attacks. - GMANews.TV
