Filipino painter exhibits art works in Malaysia

MANILA, Philippines - The artworks of a prolific Filipino artist recently ended its successful exhibit in Malaysia, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported on Wednesday. Frederick Epistola’s paintings were unveiled at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center on March 10 for a week-long display entitled, “Global Compact: Helping Improve Lives through a Fusion of Art and Innovation." Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Victoriano M. Lecaros said that the exhibit not only showcased the Filipino talent abroad but also raised funds for the benefit of the Puppet for Peace Program of UNESCO Club of Metro Manila and a chosen charity project of Mercedes Benz Malaysia. Lecaros expressed optimism that the Malaysian audience would continue to be exposed to the Philippine art through Epistola’s works. Two years ago, Epistola’s artworks were included in the permanent collection of the prestigious International Museum of Collage, Assemblage and Construction based in Texas, USA. The Parañaque-based artist also has a permanent collection in the Union of Young Peace Builders based in Switzerland. “My works are imageries of ideas—ethereal and mundane; emotions—intense and vibrant; and experiences, all of which are conveyed through spontaneous strokes," Epistola said in his website. Aside from museums ang galleries, Epistola was also commissioned by Starbucks for some paintings. Epistola is a Fine Arts graduate of the University of the Philippines in Diliman and is currently preparing for another exhibit in Europe. - Mark J. Ubalde, GMANews.TV
