Manila cops on alert for Earth Hour - report


MANILA, Philippines - As people observe an hour of darkness for the environment Saturday night, police are going to be deployed to key population centers to make sure criminals do not take advantage of the situation. Radio dzBB's Teresa Tavares reported that in Manila, Manila Police District (MPD) head Chief Supt. Roberto Rosales ordered all station commanders to make sure all their men are in the field. He ordered in particular police deployment in malls and business establishments that will take part in Earth Hour by switching off their lights from 8 to 9 p.m. Likewise, Rosales ordered police visibility along Roxas Boulevard and other tourist spots to discourage muggers and snatchers. Several malls and business establishments had pledged to take part in "Earth Hour," a worldwide campaign against climate change. - GMANews.TV
