Baguio extends domination in 3rd Philippine Olympic Festival

MANILA, Philippines - Baguio City continued with its dominance in the Central Northern Luzon qualifying games of the 3rd Philippine Olympic Festival as it bagged five more gold medals in athletics at the Remy Field inside the Subic Bay Free Port Zone. Organizers Thursday said that Oliver Gabriel won the boys' javelin throw and Eduardo Ferrer bagged the gold in the 200-meter dash, putting them in a group with double-gold performance like Maria Melissa Naputo, who triumphed in the girls' long jump and 110m hurdles on opening day. Gabriel, who won the shot-put gold on Wednesday, posted a winning performance of 48.38 meters, a feat that is about five meters better than Ilocos Norte's Abner Coloma's 43.90-meter. Another Ilocos Norte athlete Cesar Espejo finished at third with his 43.81 meters hurl. Ferrer bagged his second gold on the tracks as he listed a 23-second finish in the boys' 200-meter run and again relegate Jameson Hipolito of Olongapo City to second spot. Ferrer relegated Hipolito to second place in the 100m dash. Other gold medalists for Baguio on Thursday were Marla Felice Ellaga in triple jump, Catherine Aviles ruled the girls' 10,000m run and Irish Dimfle Velasco dominated the girls' 400m. - GMANews.TV
