Arroyo prays for intercession, 'God-centered' governance

MANILA, Philippines - On the eve of her birthday, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo prayed for intercession to let Filipinos receive the "transforming and unifying" graces of a "God-centered governance." President Arroyo recited the prayer to Our Lady of Fatima after a birthday Mass held for her at the Saint Augustine parish in her hometown of Lubao in Pampanga. "We believe you will intercede for us and intervene for the Filipino people to receive the transforming and unifying graces to fulfill the Filipino Earth Chapter preamble and principles which enshrines...God-centered governance," she said. She sought intercession as well for a "Filipino Earth Charter" as an interfaith ark of the covenant, "to recover the sacred foundations of our Filipino civilization." "In this way we can fulfill the Fatima prophecy to remind nations of the world regarding their sacred origins sacred foundations to the call of God the Father to be a holy people of God a holy land did not end in the Old Testament but continues to the present," she said. After reciting the prayer, Mrs Arroyo thanked her supporters for their support and prayers. She added one of her supporters had asked her to say the prayer after the Mass. First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo and presidential daughter Lourdes Evangeline did not accompany Mrs Arroyo to the church. "I'd prefer it that way, it will be tasking for him to come all the way here. The people here are looking for him also, the people have grown to love him," presidential son and Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo told dzBB radio. He added his father "may not be here personally but I'm sure he will be here in spirit and in prayer." Rep. Arroyo also said he wished that his mother would remain focused on her work despite the "political noise." "(My wish is that) the president remains focused in delivering her reform agenda despite the political noise being done by other people... I hope she realizes many people love her, many people support her," he added. When asked about preparations for Mrs Arroyo's birthday Saturday, he said it will be a "private gathering." After the Mass, Arroyo was to attend a lunch with local officials before heading for Clark Field in Pampanga for the inauguration of the new passenger terminal building of the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport. She was then to attend the food summit also held in Pampanga. - GMANews.TV
