(Updated 3:06 a.m.) QC cops raid Adonis Bar; over 20 male models rescued

QUEZON CITY, Philippines - More than 20 male models were rescued, and over 40 mostly female customers were held in an early morning raid at the Adonis Bar along Timog Avenue in Quezon City. Senior Inspector Cherry Lou Donato of the Quezon City Police Department's Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit told media that the police conducted operations against the establishment at about 1 a.m., Thursday, after a week-long surveillance. "The raid was done after we received reports that lewd shows were allegedly being held at the bar," she said in Filipino. The male models were boarded on a bus, while the customers boarded police cars. Most of the models and customers covered their faces while being escorted out of Adonis. A female customer said there was nothing wrong in what she and her companions did inside the bar. She said they were just watching the men perform on stage. "We enjoyed it. Why don't you try it?" she said. Donato said the models and the customers would all be taken to the city's police headquarters at Camp Karingal in Sikatuna Village, and would undergo investigation. She said the models were not arrested but were "rescued" from possible trafficking. The bar's owner and manager, and the customers could be charged with violating Republic Act 9208 or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, according to Donato. - Luis Gorgonio, AR Sabangan, GMANews.TV
