UN panel members praise RP report on human rights

The Philippines earned praises from member-countries of the United Nations Human Rights Council, after a delegation led by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita presented before the UN Human Rights Review panel in Geneva, Switzerland an achievement report by the Arroyo administration in addressing the human rights problem in the country. Radio dzBB on Saturday said the information came from Undersecretary Edwin Enrile who reportedly said that many member countries of the UN council applauded the Philippine delegation's report, which outlined the human rights cases solved by the government, and the challenges it continues to face. DzBB quoted Enrile as saying that many of the 192-member countries of the council praised the "comprehensive" report, which included human rights issues that affect women and children. The radio report said Ermita was also praised by council members for being open to recommendations on how to further improve the human rights situation in the Philippines, and effectively cooperate with the global community in addressing human rights issues. - GMANews.TV
