Body of Pinay DH found in HK bay; friend doubts suicide

MANILA, Philippines-The body of a Filipina domestic helper who was believed to have fled her employer’s apartment in Hong Kong was found last week floating in the sea off Tung Chung island with only her pajamas on. Vicenta “Vicky" Flores, 32, single, and a resident of Discovery Bay (DB) resort, was wearing only pajamas when she was fished out of the water on April 11. Police said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances in Flores’ death. They claimed that the wounds found on the victim's face was caused when her body washed ashore and hit the rocks. Nevertheless, HK police conducted house-to-house inquiries after Flores’ relatives and friends, as well as DB residents, requested further investigation. Meanwhile, the victim’s friend and fellow DB resident, Helen Andres, dismissed the speculation that Flores committed suicide. Andres described Flores as a "happy" person and would not take her own life, especially since she still had a house to finish in the Philippines. Reports said that Flores's face was covered with bruises, allegedly after falling on rocks before she drowned. Flores had been working for her employers in Hong Kong for 12 years. Shortly after her body was found, her employers were contacted but they failed to identify it as that of their missing maid. It was only on Apr. 15 that Flores’ identity was confirmed by an aunt who also works in Hong Kong. According to Philippine Vice Consul Val Roque, the aunt recognized Flores through a mole in her face and a bump on her foot. He added that only when the body had been identified did police investigations start. Roque said that the family has requested for an autopsy, but it has yet to be conducted. His office, however, would continue to monitor the case. "We want them (the police) to determine the circumstances that led to her death," Roque said. "We can’t just accept a closed case."-GMANews.TV
