Quarrel over coconut ends in bolo-axe duel; 1 killed


ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - A 49-year-old farmer was killed in a bolo-axe duel that stemmed from a heated argument over coconut fruits in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Friday. The Zamboanga Peninsula Police Office (ZPPO) report disclosed that the duel took place around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the village of Mandih in the town of Sindangan. The ZPPO identified the slain farmer as Miguel Arsolon. He sustained multiple hack wounds causing his death. The suspect was identified as Larry Ongos, 42, a neighbor of the victim. Prior to the incident, the ZPPO reported that a heated argument ensued between Arsolon and Ongos over the young coconut fruits owned by the suspect. The ZPPO reported that Arsolon picked-up an axe at the height of their altercation which prompted Ongos to grab a bolo, thus a duel ensued. Ongos outsmarted Arsolon that resulted in the death of the latter. He surrendered to the police in Sindangan town after the duel was over, the ZPPO reported. - Sun.Star Zamboanga
