Justice chief catches rice-mixing in Iloilo - report

ILOILO CITY, Philippines - Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez personally caught at least one dealer mixing National Food Authority (NFA) and commercial rice in his home province of Iloilo over the weekend. Visayas-based Bombo Radyo on Sunday reported that Gonzalez caught Greenfield Marketing Corp. in the act during an ocular inspection in Iloilo City. The report said Gonzalez was leading an inspection when he got a tip from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) that the company was allegedly involved in irregularities. The firm had earlier denied involvement in irregularities, including mixing NFA and commercial rice. But at the ocular inspection at Greenfield's warehouse, Gonzalez reportedly saw for himself the pieces of equipment used in mixing NFA and commercial rice. The radio report also said the secretary found several stocks of rice that would have been enough to meet the needs of Panay Island for one month. This reportedly belied the firm's claims it had only 6,000 sacks of rice stocks. Authorities are now investigating the matter. - GMANews.TV
