“Modernong Maria Clara

Episode on April 24, 2008 Thursday night after Saksi The face of Maria Clara Maria Clara is said to be the quintessential Filipina icon. But the image of Filipino women is said to be evolving. From Rizal’s Maria Clara to the worldwide web’s connotations of the word Filipina, has the essence really changed or is it all perception? If it has, are the changes enough to alter the view of ordinary Filipinos to the Filipina persona? With the launch of Playboy Philippines, is it fair to say that the public is more comfortable with a non-conservative Filipina image? 100% Pinoy finds out in an actual Playboy centerfold photoshoot. Miriam Quiambao explores the proverbial changing image of Maria Clara, particularly on how it is depicted in the arts and modern day media. Pinay Power With two female Presidents, the Philippines is said to be a country with highly-empowered women. In fact, according to the United Nations Development Program’s (UNDP) Gender Empowerment Measure, the country is number one in Asia when comes to gender equality. But is this really the case in the real world? 100% Pinoy conducts a social experiment to find out how equal men and women are in Philippine society. Host Joaquin Valdes also traces the roots of the so-called movement for women empowerment from its very roots in indigenous Filipino culture to modern day powerful and successful Filipinas. Liberated? In the much touted western sexual liberation of the 70s Filipinos and, much worse, Filipinas are said to have been left behind. Being a predominantly conservative Catholic nation, what can we expect? Correct? Wrong. Some experts are now saying: expect the unexpected. With the advent of new technologies such as the internet, mobile communications, and interactive television programming – the mores and attitudes of Filipinas when it comes to sexual behavior are also changing. Are the modern Filipinas liberated or is it just all hype? From clans and chatting to EBs and one-night stands, Filipino women are said to be opening up to new ways of meeting up and building relationships.
