Electrocuted fireman needs P2M for treatment; wife appeals for help

MANILA, Philippines - At least P2 million is needed to perform medical procedures needed for the recovery of a fireman who was electrocuted while battling a blaze in Caloocan City, the fireman's wife said as she appealed to donors to help raise the amount. In an interview with dzBB on Tuesday morning, Sunshine - wife of Senior Fire Inspector Nyzrudin Cablayan - said his husband is undergoing a major operation every other day at the Medical City in Pasig City. All in all, Mrs Cablayan said her husband needs to undergo 20 major operations on his way to recovery. "Maraming salamat sa lahat ng tumulong. Sana'y huwag kayong magsawang tumulong. Talagang kailangang kailangan namin ang tulong ninyo," Mrs Cablayan said. "Nakakausap siya pero mas gusto namin na magpahinga siya kasi kailangan niya ng lakas. Every other day ang operation niya, ang pahinga isang araw lang ang pagitan," she added. Mrs Cablayan said those who wanted to help them could go to the Medical City and ask the guard or nurses to call for her. "No visitors allowed po kasi. Pwedeng sabihin sa security sa ibaba o sa nurse station, ako na lang ang bababa," she said. The firefighter's wife noted that her husband is in much pain but said they remain thankful for her husband's second chance at life. "Everytime na maga-undergo ng operation talagang umiiyak at nagwawala siya sa sakit. Halos hindi siya makakilos sa sobrang sakit. Sobrang in pain siya," Mrs Cablayan said. "Honestly, pangalawang buhay na ng asawa ko ito dahil nawalan na siya ng pulso sa scene," she said. While it hurts her to see her husband in constant pain, Mrs Cablayan said she is trying hard to be strong for him and their children. "Masakit para sa akin kasi ngayon ko lang nakitang ganyan yun asawa ko. Kinakaya ko kasi nakikita ko sa asawa ko na tinutulungan niya yung sarili niya. Lumalaban ho ang asawa ko dahil may gusto pa siya mangyari. Gusto niya pa tulungana ng mga Filipino," she said. Sunshine, 28, and Nyzrudin, 34, have two children, aged four years old and one year old. The firefighter will celebrate his 35th birthday on May 14. The firefighter was electrocuted while battling a fire that hit the old Ever Gotesco building in Samson Road, Caloocan last April 16. At least five firefighters, three of them fire volunteers, were injured in the blaze. Two were electrocuted, including Cablayan, after one of them touched a live wire. Three others suffocated. - Amita Legaspi, GMANews.TV
