(Updated 3:06 p.m.) MANILA, Philippines - A volunteer firefighter was hurt while P10 million in property went up in smoke during a fire that hit a factory in Valenzuela City shortly after noon Thursday.
Radio dzBB's Tuesday Niu reported that the fire started at 12:25 p.m. at the New Multi-Star Manufacturing Corp., which reportedly manufactures plastics and rubber footwear.
The fire reached the fifth alarm as of 1 p.m., with firefighters having a hard time getting to the site at Karuhatan village because of narrow streets. Firefighters had to use chemical foam to control the blaze.
One of the volunteer firefighters, Mike Wok, suffered a deep cut in the thumb caused by glass shards.
Valenzuela City fire marshal Chief Insp. Agapito Nacario cited initial reports indicating the fire started at the stockroom, where workers saw flames coming out.
Nacario initially estimated the damage to property at P10 million. Arson investigators will invite the factory's owner, one Jerry Tan, to shed light on the incident. - GMANews.TV
