Myanmar yet to issue clearance for RP medical contingent

MANILA, Philippines - Myanmar is yet to issue a clearance for the 15-man medical contingent that will assist the victims of the cyclone that smashed the country last week. Air Force Chief Lt. Gen. Pedrito Cadungog said the C-130 plane that will carry the team to Myanmar is supposed to leave Monday morning from Villamor Air Base in Pasay City. “There is scheduled (transport) tomorrow but there still a problem in the clearance because Myanmar still doesn't allow the entry of humanitarian mission,” he said. “Nothing is clear yet if there is going to be the go signal for us to fly tomorrow (Monday) because of the restrictions imposed by Myanmar,” he said. Cadungog said the plan was to drop off the health workers and the relief goods to Myanmar, after which the Air Force would return to Manila. The official also said that the aircraft would be picking up the Filipino health workers when their mission is over. “Those in the Department of Health and those here in the Air Force are still coordinating on the progress of the international clearances, in the flight clearance with Myanmar if our humanitarian mission personnel will be allowed to enter,” he said. - GMANews.TV
