‘Cosme’ intensifies, 4 provinces under signal 2


MANILA, Philippines - At least four areas in northern and Central Luzon were placed under Storm Signal 2 as tropical storm "Cosme" (Halong) intensified Friday night. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said "Cosme" presently poses a threat to Central and northern Luzon. "'Cosme' will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rains over Luzon and Western Visayas. Residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes are advised to take all the necessary precautions against possible flash floods and landslides," it said in an advisory dated 7:30 p.m. Pagasa also warned residents along the coastal areas of Luzon and Western Visayas against big waves generated by "Cosme." As of 5 p.m., "Cosme" was 240 kilometers west-southwest of Iba, Zambales and packed maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 120 kph. It was moving northeast at 13 kph and was forecast to be 70 km northwest of Iba, Zambales Saturday afternoon. By Sunday afternoon, it is expected to be 110 km east of Aparri, Cagayan. By Monday afternoon, it is expected to be 610 km east-northeast of Basco, Batanes. Placed under Storm Signal 2 were Zambales, Tarlac, Pangasinan and La Union. Under Storm Signal 1 are Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Benguet, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Abra, and Ilocos Sur. - GMANews.TV
