‘Cosme’ makes landfall over western Pangasinan - Pagasa


MANILA, Philippines - Tropical storm "Cosme" (Halong) slightly changed direction and made landfall over western Pangasinan late Saturday afternoon, state weather forecasters said. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said "Cosme" was 90 kilometers north-northwest of Iba, Zambales, as of 4 p.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 105 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph. It was moving northeast at 19 kph and was expected to be 130 km east of Tuguegarao City Sunday afternoon. By Monday afternoon, it was expected to be 660 km east-northeast of Basco, Batanes. By Tuesday afternoon, it is expected to be 780 km east of Okinawa, Japan. Signal No.3 was up over Zambales, Pangasinan, Tarlac, La Union, Benguet and Ilocos Sur. Placed under Signal No. 2 were Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Quirino, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Kalinga, Abra, Apayao and Ilocos Norte. Under Signal No. 1 were Lubang Island, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Northern Quezon, Isabela, Cagayan, Calayan Island, Babuyan Group of Islands, Batanes and Metro Manila. Pagasa said "Cosme" would continue to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring occasional rains over the rest of Southern Luzon and Western Visayas regions. Residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes were advised to take all necessary precautions against possible flash floods and landslides. Those along the coastal areas of Western Luzon and Western Visayas are alerted against big waves generated by "Cosme." - GMANews.TV
