Eastern police to traders: Install CCTV or face fines, jail


MANILA, Philippines - Police in eastern Metro Manila warned owners of bank branches and businesses they face fines and jail time if they do not install closed circuit TV (CCTV) systems. Radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported that the Eastern Police District cited an ordinance in Pasig City that penalizes businesses without CCTV systems. The EPD said the ordinance prescribes up to one month in jail or a fine of P5,000 for business establishment owners who fail to install CCTV systems. According to the EPD, only 80 percent of some 170 banks in eastern Metro Manila have CCTV systems. Of the 170 banks, 70 are located at the Ortigas Center. The EPD said it would conduct inspections of the banks and business establishments to check for CCTV systems. Earlier, the Philippine National Police ordered increased police visibility and checkpoint operations following a bloody bank robbery in Cabuyao, Laguna last May 16. - GMANews.TV
