Drunk man mistaken for rice thief killed in Antipolo


MANILA, Philippines - A drunk man mistaken for a rice thief was gunned down in Antipolo City, in Rizal province before dawn Sunday, radio dzRH reported. The report said the police identified the victim as Jeffrey Deunida who was seen urinating near a rice dealer's compound before the incident took place. Authorities arrested rice dealer Filemon Hernandez, 31, for the death of the victim. The incident occurred about 1:30 a.m. near Hernandez's compound at Sitio Talipapa Phase 2 in the city's San Isidro village. Initial investigation showed Deunida had just come from a drinking spree and was passing by the compound when he decided to pee. Thinking that Deunida was out to steal his rice, Hernandez allegedly took a .45-caliber pistol and shot Deunida in the chest. The victim succumbed to injuries before he could be brought to a hospital. - GMANews.TV
