LRTA offers traditional free ride on June 12


MANILA, Philippines - The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) on Thursday announced that they will be giving “free rides" on June 12 in both LRT Line 1 and 2, as it has traditionally practiced in past years in celebration of the country's Independence Day. In a statement, LTRA spokesperson Jinky Jorgio said that the “free rides" are scheduled at 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. “This is a great way to give back to the passengers what they have given to the company," Jorgio said. LRTA - which operates the Yellow Line and the Purple Line - said more than 380, 000 commuters use their facility on the daily basis. The Yellow Line consists of eighteen stations in north-south direction and over 15 kilometers of fully elevated track. The line starts at Baclaran and ends in Monumento. While the Purple Line consists of eleven stations east-west direction over 13.8 kilometers of mostly elevated track, with Katipunan station lying underground. The line starts at Recto and ends in Santolan. Overall, the network has 29 stations over 28.8 kilometers of track, passing through the cities of Caloocan, Manila, Marikina, Pasay, Pasig, Quezon City, and San Juan. - GMANews.TV
