Nothing to worry about Cory's health 'as of now' - Siytangco

A close friend of former President Corazon Aquino on Wednesday said “there is nothing to worry" about the former leader’s health "as of now." In an interview, Lourdes “Deedee" Siytangco said Mrs. Aquino’s condition remains “stable" at the Makati Medical Center where she has been confined since June 25. She also denied rumors that Mrs. Aquino has been given a “24-hour prognosis" and urged the public to refrain from spreading false information about the ailing democracy icon’s health. “Please. The rumors are confusing the people and are causing panic to friends and relatives," Siytangco, who was Mrs. Aquino’s former spokeswoman, said. “We entrusted her (Mrs. Aquino) to God. She is stable," she added. Mrs. Aquino was diagnosed with colon cancer in March 2008 and is currently under a 24-hour observation by her doctors at the MMC, according to Siytangco. Siytangco asked the public to ignore reports on Mrs. Aquino’s health condition unless they come from any of the former leader’s family members. “Don’t listen to rumors. There is nothing to worry as of now. It’s not true if it is not coming from me or to the members of President Aquino’s family," she said. Mrs. Aquino’s daughter, Kris Aquino-Yap, confirmed Sunday that her mother is “in pain" and asked the Filipino people to continue praying for the former leader. Mrs. Aquino had been instrumental in the fall of the more than 20 years of Marcos dictatorship. She was installed to power in February 1986 following a civilian-backed military uprising, and has been recognized as a global democracy icon ever since. - GMANews.TV
